Two years ago today, on October 22, 2024, our world changed forever. After NINE long months in the hospital, watching our sweet Hannah fight for her life, praying for a miracle that only God could make happen, we received the news we had been praying for. Hannah was getting her new heart. ❤️

Two years later, and sometimes I still find myself wondering how we got so blessed. How do you put into words what it feels like to watch your child come so close to losing everything, only to be given a second chance at life? How do you thank a family for the most precious gift imaginable when that gift came at the cost of their own unimaginable heartbreak?

Today, while we celebrate two years of Hannah’s beautiful heart beating inside her chest, we will never forget the little girl whose life made this miracle possible. We will never forget that behind our joy is a family who has had to learn to live in a world without their precious daughter. Our miracle came through their greatest heartbreak, and that is something we will carry in our hearts forever.

To Karlie’s mom and dad, I wish there were words big enough to express our love and gratitude for you. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t think of Karlie, pray for you, and thank God for the extraordinary gift you gave our family. We know that this day holds both beauty and unimaginable pain. We celebrate Hannah’s life while holding space for your grief, missing Karlie alongside you, and loving her in all the ways we know how.

I hope you know that Karlie is not just remembered on this day. Her name is spoken. Her life is celebrated. Her love lives on. We see pieces of her in the gift she left behind, and we will spend the rest of our lives making sure her story is told.

Hannah, my sweet girl, TWO YEARS. Two years of watching you grow, laugh, make memories, chase your dreams, and experience things we once weren’t sure you would ever get the chance to do. Two years of watching you live because of the gift of another little girl’s life. You are living proof that miracles happen, that God hears our prayers, and that even in the darkest valleys, He can bring beauty from unimaginable pain.

October 22 will forever be one of the most sacred days of our lives. A day of tears, gratitude, remembrance, and hope. A day that reminds us that life is fragile, love is powerful, and the gift of organ donation is nothing short of extraordinary.

Two years ago, Hannah received a heart. But our family received so much more than that. We received more birthdays, more hugs, more laughter, more memories, and more time with our girl. And we will never, ever take a single second for granted.
