The Riggle Family
We are so excited to share how well Damon is doing right now. Every day continues to bring small but meaningful victories, and we are so grateful to see his strength shining through.
Damon has been cooing more and becoming increasingly active, which has been such a joy for all of us to witness. He absolutely loves being on the move — taking walks around the hospital floor, enjoying wagon rides, and this past week he even got to go outside for the first time since December 8th. Seeing him experience fresh air again was incredibly special, and he clearly loved every minute of it.
The care team has shared that Damon’s minimum discharge weight goal is 4 kilograms, and we are getting closer. On Thursday, 2/12, he reached 3.78 kg, which felt like a huge milestone. We’ve been told not to be surprised if his weight fluctuates a little with decreases followed by increases, so we are celebrating every step forward and counting all progress as a win.
His stomach feeds are going well. Damon is currently receiving 4 ml continuously over 22 hours, along with 2–5 ml by mouth, which he absolutely enjoys. He is also taking omeprazole by mouth twice a day. Last week, the team attempted to wean his TPN down to 22 hours, but blood sugar levels became a concern, so the decision was made to pause the weaning process until he gains a bit more weight. Maintaining stable blood sugar remains an important part of the steps toward going home.
Damon continues to grow more aware and curious, noticing more of the world around him each day. Being able to move around with his equipment has allowed him to explore beyond his room, which has been wonderful for his development and spirits.
Mom and Dad are still balancing life between home and hospital, taking things one day at a time and staying focused on Damon’s continued progress.
As always, thank you all so much for the love, prayers, and support. It truly means more than we can express. We are so thankful to have such an incredible community walking alongside us on this journey.
