The Rico Family
My brother has shared his heartfelt update and with his blessing sharing it:Β
I want to start by thanking everyone for the overwhelming love, support, donations, meals, prayers, and care you have shown our family. Your generosity and kindness have been incredibly inspiring and deeply moving. I apologize for not thanking you all sooner, but please know how truly grateful we are. Your support has meant more to us than words can express.
Tiffany has now been on home hospice for over 40 days. Hospice care has been helpful and very responsive to our needs. It has helped manage some of her symptoms and improve her daily comfort. However, the advanced stage and aggressive nature of her disease has not made this an easy or peaceful journey. We are still watching this innocent, beautiful, loving person slowly suffer and lose her faculties. It has been stressful, traumatic, and heartbreaking for all of us, especially the kids. During this time (and before), Tiffany has endured fall-related injuries, frightening choking episodes, and other complications. Her chorea can be so severe it is like watching someone have a seizure. Her body and limbs are literally flailing and writhingβit's horrific.
Tiffany is still alert and fighting with incredible determination. She requires my constant care and assistance with her everyday needs. Our daily priorities are keeping her safe, preventing injuries and aspiration, maintaining her comfort, and supporting her nutrition on her terms. Her relentless, involuntary movements have contributed to significant weight loss. The energy her body expends is probably consistent with running a marathon every single day. She is sleeping more, but she still loves our morning walks and spending time outside with the kids. These moments are precious to us.
Through it all, Tiffanyβs strength, fortitude, and heart remain extraordinary. Despite everything she is enduring, she still greets people with a smile. Her love for her family shines through, and her desire to be a great Mom has never wavered.Β
We continue to take things one day at a time, cherishing the good moments and doing everything we can to keep Tiffany comfortable and surrounded by love. Thank you for standing beside our family during the hardest chapter of our lives. We feel your love, and we are deeply grateful for every single one of you.
Please keep Tiffany and the kids in your prayers. Family is everything. Cure HD. π
