On Thursday evening, Winnie had one of her seizures that required rescue medications. This happens occasionally, and usually we are able to get things under control with one dose. This one kept going, so we gave a second medication. When it still didn’t stop, we called 911.
This has happened a handful of times, and it is always stressful. In the past, the paramedics and sometimes the ER staff has had to give more doses (sometimes multiple) of different rescue meds to stop the seizure.
This time, the seizure stopped while the ambulance was on its way. They checked her out and her vitals were all stable, so we decided not to transport her to the hospital. I am so thankful that we were able to stay home and get a good night of rest.
Since her last hospital stay, we have acquired more medical equipment than we had in the past. We have a good pulse odometer, oxygen, etc. This made us more comfortable keeping her home. And we can always call the paramedics back if we need them.
A lot of times when she has a seizure like this, it is due to an illness. This time we think it is because of changes to her medications that we have been making. Either way, it is no fun for anyone, especially Winnie. We are thankful for the way it all worked out this time and that we didn’t have to go to the hospital.
