In January, Bella celebrated her 13th “rebirthday” — thirteen years since her heart and lung transplant.

Around that same time, she was supposed to have her annual in-depth transplant checkup. We missed it. She has also had to miss other important follow-up appointments in recent months.

As a mother, there is nothing harder than knowing your child needs specialized care and not being able to provide it because of insurance barriers.

We have never asked for help before. This is humbling. It’s hard. But seeing the support come in has reminded us that we are not alone.
