The past few days have been a whirlwind and very little sleep so I apologize for not updating. I will keep this somewhat brief but know that there are so many people that care and would like to know how she is doing.
First off, thank you so much to everyone for the prayers and support through this extremely difficult time. Our family is so greatful to each of you for caring and loving on us all in your own ways.
As for Grace, she is such a tough tough special little princess. Due to the quick actions of her dad and favorite Aunt Amanda, jumping in to save her, her injuries were sustained in her lower extremities below the knee other than a couple minor broken ribs. From the very beginning she has remained alert and was even giving sass before her first surgery upon arrival to the hospital. The staff here reassured us that she remained in good spirits and awake and aware until she went into the OR.
For where we are now, she is currently in her 3rd surgery to repair her broken bones in her legs, ankles, and left heal. Each surgery she has had has gone super well and they were able to, thus far, do more than they expected they would get done which has helped cut down the amount of surgeries she will have. We are hopeful this one goes the same way.
We just received an update from the first surgeon that worked on her heal as I was writing this. He said the surgery on her Talice (heal) just went amazingly well. This part was more complicated and took more planning as this is a very rare break for a pediatric patient and is common in adults so an adult surgeon needed to be brought in. He was very pleased with how well it went.
Yesterday was a big day and very overwhelming for her as they stopped her sedation meds and removed the ventilator that had been on for the lowest help needed just to support her lungs during the first two surgeries. She also chose to rest her throat and did not want to talk yesterday and wanted me to be right next to her the entire day. She also did a lot of eye rolling at the doctors bugging her and me for guessing the wrong thing she was needing done. This morning before surgery she answered a couple things with her voice and said I love you to both John and I separately.
Her progress has been amazing and she has won over every staff member that has encountered her since day one. I can say she is absolutely in the best place she could possibly be and the staff here is out of this world.
As the days go by and get calmer I will be able to update more often.
I ask that you continue to pray for Grace's healing and John's peace while we continue through each process to come. This truly was a freak accident due to no fault of John's and everything was done as it should have been. We are just so thankful to God that this was not worse as it could have been and please do not listen to what others are saying as they were not there and do not know the real story of what actually occurred.
