The Mattiacio Family
First and foremost, I wanted to say a huge thank you for the overwhelming amount of love, encouragement, and generosity from all of you. We feel so incredibly blessed for the endless support and kindness that surrounds us every day.
I also wanted to provide everyone with an update on how Zach is doing. It’s amazing to see where he is now thinking about where he was just a little over seven weeks ago. He was in the Indiana ICU for 3 weeks and has been at the Kessler rehab facility for 3.5 weeks with a week break in a NJ hospital for another surgery. With just a little over 3 weeks of active rehab, he is back to full respiratory independence, eating and talking normally, nearly full sensory abilities, trace muscle movements throughout the body, slight movement in fingers and wrists, and some strong movements in both his legs where he can lift them up and down in the chair. We are targeting to transfer him back to Rochester on the last day of October, where he will be able to live at home again and go to outpatient therapy sessions.
