Wow; what a whirlwind of a month!
I have been so amazed at how fast Sutton is learning and growing each day. She came off of the oxygen as I had said a few weeks ago.

She continued to have intermittent bradycardic (low heart rate) episodes and slight oxygen desaturations; the doctors would put her on caffeine and take her off--back and forth. But eventually, her brain stem developed enough to where her oxygen maintained itself during the night, and the bradycardic events were minimal.

Due to the continued bradycardic episodes, and the sound of a heart murmur on exam, doctors ordered an echocardiogram. Sutton has a patent foramen ovale or PFO as well as mild pulmonary stenosis. The PFO is a valve that essentially never closed in development. It should resolve on its own and/or should not cause her any issues. They will definitely need to keep an eye on the pulmonary stenosis as this means one of her valves (pulmonary valve) is "stiff" and may need intervention in the future.

Sutton was slowly increased her bottle intake...then she went from drinking 35% on 9/5 to drinking 99% of her bottles on 9/12! She is currently more than 2 pounds over her birth weight! They pulled her feeding tube on 9/12 and wanted to watch her over the weekend to see how she did with her breathing/heart rate.

Natalee just told us that Sutton will be coming home TODAY, 9/14!!!!! She has been such a fighter and her parents have stayed so strong through the whole terrifying experience.

While it is a HUGE answer to prayer that they will have Sutton at home, there are still a lot of "unknowns." It can be scary/daunting to take home a baby that needs extra care/attention; especially when you have a very active toddler running around!

I have no doubt that it was your prayers and blessings that got Sutton and her family through the first/hardest part of their journey. Please continue to pray that God helps Sutton grow and thrive and that her cardiac issues will resolve and/or not cause her physical setbacks as she gets older. Pray that God would give Mason and Natalee peace, patience, and REST! And pray that Sloan adapts well to the new addition to the house/family and gives her parents some grace.

Thank you again for ALL of the support, kind words, gifts, prayers, etc. I will continue to check/update this page for a few months while Sutton is making the transition from preemie to newborn!
