We've Got A Plan: Update On Logan's Cancer Treatment

Hey all,

We got some very good news this week, as well as a plan moving forward!

Last week, Logan's most recent scans showed no indication of spread anywhere else in his body and there was no visible sign of a residual tumor.  Then on Tuesday, Logan's medical team met to come up with a plan for the next steps in his cancer treatment.  Right now the plan is an additional surgery in 3-4 weeks to remove more in the area out of precaution.  Those samples will then be sent to pathology to ensure there are still no cancer cells present.  The Oncologist indicated that there is only a 5% chance that further surgery or even radiation will be needed.

Wes & Vickey (and the rest of us in the family) are thrilled with this recommendation and are fully on board, as it is truly the best option in a situation no one ever wants to be in.  Post-surgery, Logan will be monitored with regular scans and since chondrosarcoma is so rare in children, he will need annual scans well into adulthood to make sure his cancer hasn't returned.  Anyone who has gone on their own cancer journey themselves or with a loved one knows the way you hold your breath every time you go back for screening, and this is something that will now be a part of Logan's life for the long haul.

Now that we have a plan going forward and know what their needs are going to be, we can finally take many of you up on offers for tangible support.

MEALS

With the number of food allergies/restrictions to control for, the safest option is for folks to use the Gift Card option on the main Registry page and donate a gift card under the Meals category.  Wes & Vickey will then be able to choose the specific gift card (i.e. DoorDash, Instacart, GrubHub) based on what's available in their area.

Another option is to send a virtual gift certificate from Gluten Free Mall to allow them to shop for safe, pantry staples that can be delivered.  If any of you have to shop allergy-safe items, you know how much more these items cost.  So this can save them a trip to the store and the extra cost of purchasing these items.  To send a virtual gift card, please visit the link above and send it to Wesley Johnston at [email protected] .

We are so grateful for the number of people wanting to cook and deliver meals, because sharing food is such an act of love.  But with the health & allergy needs to fully avoid certain things, they've asked that the best way folks can love them is with the gift card & gift certificate options.  Then it's one less stressor on their plates (pun intended).  We'll be adding all this information to the Lend A Hand section of the Registry, as well, since so many folks specifically raised a hand to offer help with Meals.

BIRTHDAY

Logan's 8th birthday is coming up on the 17th of July, so it's only fitting that this year especially, we shower him and his family with as much love as possible.

On the main page you will find a link to Logan's Amazon Wish List, which also contains some items for his siblings as well as practical things for the whole family.

Additionally, we're asking folks to donate to the general fundraiser in multiples of 8 (for his 8th birthday) to help them defray the costs associated with Logan's care and recovery.  $8 is a bottle of Children's Tylenol, $48 is a tank of gas, and $200 can be groceries for a week.  Every little bit helps, so please consider donating what you can as it truly does add up.

To those of you that have already donated -- thank you!!  We are so grateful for your love and support and it has meant so much to Vickey & Wes to feel their community behind them.  Please feel free to share this update on your social media using the Share button at the bottom, as well as sharing the main Support Registry page.  Logan is certainly not out of the woods yet and with another surgery on the horizon, he, Vickey, Wes, Abby, and Katie are going to need our continued love, support, and prayers.

We'll continue updating when we have information, and if/when new needs arise, we'll be sure to let every one know.  In the meantime, thank you so very much for being on this journey with our family.

In Gratitude,

Logan's Auntie Tara (on behalf of Vickey & Wes)
