This is week 6 of my infusions which means I am 25% of the way through my chemo journey! As I mentioned in a previous post, a "round" of chemo is a 3-week cycle and it breaks down like this:
- week 1 of a cycle (aka "big chemo") = all three drugs administered, heavy fatigue for a couple days as a side effect
- weeks 2 & 3 of a cycle (aka "little chemo") = only one drug administered, I don't experience any side effects these weeks
Overall, I've continued to manage side effects super well. I only feel heavy fatigue for a couple days during a "big chemo" week. I am managing my digestive side effects with diet instead of meds. I am not experiencing any nausea or vomiting, including during "big chemo" weeks when there is a higher risk; those weeks I proactively take Zofran and it's working great.
When it comes to my hair, the scalp cooling seems to be working (crossing my fingers)! I am definitely losing hair and shedding more than normal, but so far I am losing strands, not clumps. I can still wear my hair in low ponytails which is a win. Other than that, I am finding that allergies are hitting me worse this year because of the loss of nose hair - who knew?!
As I've said in every update - THANK YOU to all of you. I can't say it enough.
Here is a photo Chris snuck of me working out. I truly and deeply believe that my existing daily exercise routine and healthy diet before being diagnosed set me up for success. And throughout treatment, I have continued to workout daily (lifting weights 5 days per week, light walking/abs/yoga on the remaining 2 days.) Without a doubt, this has helped me tolerate chemo well. A body in motion stays in motion - I'll scream this from the rooftops to whomever will listen!
