Gianunzio Family Update
Liz had a good night last night. She had a great nursing staff last night that kept on top of her pain which allowed her to have a good night's sleep. Spoke with her this morning and she seemed in better spirits even though they will be taking her back for surgery around 1030. The surgery itself is scheduled for 12pm and will take approximately 2 hours with 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours in recovery after.
If anyone would like to go see her today, please wait until 5:30 or after. Visitors are allowed in rooms until 8:30pm due to new policies that were implemented recently.
Her heel was basically broken in half and displaced. It is unknown whether or not she will have a plate with screws or just screws to put it back into place. Either way, she has a long road ahead of her. 3 months of non weight bearing, another 2-3 months in a boot, lots of physical therapy, and future arthritis to look forward to. All together she is looking at a 12-16 month recovery process.
Brooklyn is in better spirits today. She was able to get a good night's sleep. However, as we approach day 2-3, the overall body soreness is kicking in. She is being a trooper but super disappointed she will lose an entire soccer season due to injury for the second time in three years. Poor kid.
Raelen is ok. She is at the hospital with Mom keeping her in good spirits.
I feel like I've been hit by a truck. I only have about 60-70% lung capacity. Taking a deep breath is hard and hurts like Hades. The right knee is still about 2 times its normal size. Thanks Grandpa for leaving me your cane. It's the only way I'm able to hobble around. Once swelling goes down, I'll be headed to Nebraska Ortho to get an MRI.
I wanted to give a huge thank you to Dawn Steffen with the MBA Cyclones organization for bringing over some really good breakfast sandwiches this morning. I can't begin to tell you and everyone else how grateful we are for the help, prayers and outreach that continues to come our way. We truly thank and love you all!!
