The De La Torre Family
AfterTwo weeks of intense physical, occupationall, and speech therapies, my wholemedical team met to decide I could leave the rehabilitation center, so I have! Now at home, i.I realize now how little I processed my losses and changeswhile in rehab. Most other patients there were stroke sufferers and had significant speech loss, so my own left side motor loss did not feel so difficult. I felt almost lucky in comparison to my "peers."Now that I'm home, however, I can see and feelthe differences in who I am now post surgery, and now I feel like I am a shadow of a productive person, and I'm now finally processing and grieving my losses.I finally understandwhy my therapists would tell me I was going through something really difficultwhile it didn't feel like I was. It does feel amazing to be near my kids 24/7 again, but it also physicallyhighlights my lack of independence and motor skills. I am not loving this stage. It is hard and humbling. I keep remembering a conversation with Teo and keep wanting to share it with you all- so here we go: When Joe had a good job offer rescinded in early June, I realized Teo internalized so,me financial worries and so it was important to me that he would hook on to. psalm 23 instead. I walked him thrhough it and he clearly responded well to it but then he took a pause and told me" mama, we arn't always going to like God's. plans for us. He will always provide, for sure, but sometimes we reallly won't like how.' I told him he was so wise and right but it wasn't until nowthat I' realized just how right Teo was.
