Ben & Hope Crelin's Twins, Prayer & Care
Wonderful news!
Simeon’s open heart surgery on Monday was very successful. He no longer has a big hole in his heart, and he is off ventilation. And his lungs appear in better shape than the clinical picture had presented before the surgery. The doctors are keeping Simeon comfortable with expected pain medications and are slowly stepping down his respiratory support over the next several days. So far there are no post-op complications.

With the heart now repaired and no longer a factor in terms of his breathing, the team is working to find what new level of respiratory therapy Simeon needs to support his lung disease. Once that new baseline is determined, then we can look toward going home. But again … we long for full healing of Simeon’s lungs, so please continue to pray with us for that.
Giving Thanks
We thank the Lord a million times over for the skill of our surgeon (!!!) and his operating team as well as the world-class care we’re receiving through so many overlapping teams at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Thank you to the sweet friends who surprised Ben and myself as very welcome distractions at the hospital while we waited during the surgery. Thank you to all of you who have been praying, and to so many of you for reaching out with encouragement before and after. Thank you to all those who continue to feed us. Thank you to my Mom, Kathy, for flying back here to enable Ben and myself to focus fully on Simeon and his needs (and for me to sleep more so that I don't utterly crash).
Please pray
Please pray
- Give thanks to God for a very successful surgery and for our phenomenal surgeon and his team as well as for the CICU teams.
- Praise God that Simeon has so far had no post-op complications.
- Please pray for Simeon’s continued healing and that there are no post-op complications.
- Please pray for full healing for Simeon’s lungs such that even the doctors are surprised by it.
- Please pray for healing and rest for myself and Ben. We, and especially I, have absorbed so much physical stress these past eight months in the hospital. So pray for healing and protection for my own body so that I don’t crash (I slept mostly till 3pm today). I so long to “get out of civilization,” as I say, to rest amidst quiet and beauty, but it's difficult to imagine how to do so as a mom of twin babies. So pray that the Lord somehow renews my body to be able to care for Simeon (and our three other kiddos) when he comes home. And pray that the Lord strengthens our whole family through this time and continues to protect us from all evil.
