Today’s Rounds was hard. We are officially having conversations about him not getting better. We knew this is where we were at but it is more striking when the doctors start telling you that they are throwing everything at him, but running out of options.
The biopsy confirmed GVHD in the liver. GVHD of the liver is extremely hard to treat and does not usually happen this early after a bone marrow transplant. They are upping the treatment for GVHD to include another steroid and another medication. This increases the risk of infection for him but the current GVHD treatments are not working.
His chest X-ray was significantly worse today. They do not know if it is worsening pulmonary hemorrhage or worsening fungal infection.
He is going to get a CT today. They are going to get a better look at his lungs and liver.
They are talking about doing a bronchoscopy. They did not do a BAL last night but are instead weighing the risks of doing a bronchoscopy. This is HIGHLY risky for Greyson but if they can figure out what is growing in his lungs, they may be able to treat it. 💚🧡🎗️
