We talked a lot at rounds today about why Greyson failed extubation. His doctors believe it was due to lack of strength. Both for coughing up secretions and taking big enough breaths. He has been intubated and sedated for four weeks now.
They are putting him back on the CPAP setting on his ventilator to help him gain strength in breathing. They are also going to continue to have PT and OT come by to help him sit up so he can work on his trunk strength as well.
They are adjusting his sedation medications to be lighter during the day and stronger at night. This will help him with delirium, as well as strengthening during the day while allowing him to sleep at night.
They will work on these things over the next couple of days and then reevaluate attempting to extubate again. 💚🧡🎗️
