The good news for today is that we are officially on day 1 of engraftment. We have two more days of an ANC over 500 before he is considered engrafted. 💚
The skin biopsy showed a lot of inflammation in his skin. We are still waiting on the infectious disease results of the skin biopsy but the inflammation has BMT thinking it is now a GVHD (graft-vs-host disease) rash. They think that he already had injury there (the rash that started before transplant) and as his cells came in they took to the rash and made it worse.
They are weaning his steroids very slowly. If any of these problems are GVHD, the steroids may be helping to partially treat them. If they determine the rash is GVHD, they will add a medication to help treat it.
He had a very big, loose stool this morning. They are reaching out to Infectious Disease and sending samples out to determine if this is another infection brewing. They are also considering if it is GVHD of the gut.
They will do an echo tomorrow to take another look at the fluid around his heart. They are also considering if this is GVHD.
He is still not peeing on his own and they will likely put the foley back in today.
They are planning to wean the vent today again if they can get him to start taking his own breaths. They are adjusting his sedation to encourage him to breathe on his own. 💚🧡🎗️
