The Browning Family
Today was an emotional day on Floor 11 at U of M Mott.
Every year on July 1, the fellowship program begins, which means some of the doctors Harley has grown to know and love move on to the next chapter of their training. Harley was one of the very first patients for Tyler (EP) and Molly (Heart Failure), so today we had to say goodbye.
There were tears, hugs, gifts, singing, and even dancing. They have been such an important part of Harley's journey, and we are so grateful for the love and care they have given her. We wish them nothing but the best as they continue changing lives.
Today Harley also got to leave the floor with physical therapy for some fun exercise. She had a great time, but afterward she was definitely worn out and needed a well-earned nap.
Being here has brought some of the highest highs and some of the lowest lows.
Every day I walk these halls and see babies and children fighting battles most people will never understand. I see children come and go. I see some who have been here since Harley's first day and are still waiting. I see children surrounded by family and others who rarely have anyone by their side. I celebrate when a child gets to go home, and my heart breaks for the ones who are struggling the most. I see tiny newborns preparing for or recovering from open-heart surgery before they've even had the chance to experience life.
I love children with my whole heart—that's why I teach. Being here has changed me forever. These children have names, faces, stories, dreams, and families who love them more than words can say.
So tonight, my prayer isn't just for Harley.
It's for Valentina.
For Gavin.
For Owen.
For Aiden.
For Leo.
For Hunter.
For Carter.
For Jerry.
For Lydia.
For Cecily.
For Reverance.
For every child on Floor 11.
For every family sleeping in hospital rooms tonight.
For every doctor, nurse, therapist, and staff member who pours their heart into caring for these incredible kids.
Please pray for them all.
And please help raise awareness for congenital heart disease (CHD). CHD is the most common birth defect, and more children die from congenital heart disease than from all childhood cancers combined. Yet so many people have never heard these statistics until it affects someone they love.
Tonight, this post is for every heart warrior.
You are seen.
You are loved.
And you are not fighting alone. ❤️
