Chelsea Brem and Family
This morning brought a full round of PT and OT, and Chelsea worked incredibly hard. She participated in cognitive therapy activities like touching her finger to her nose, mimicking gestures, tracing a squiggly line, copying a drawing, writing her name, and walking a short stretch of the hallway with significant support from her therapy team. These sessions require a tremendous amount of energy, and she gave everything she had. 💪🏻
After therapy, she rested deeply and has been sleeping since late morning, briefly waking for speech therapy. The focus there continues to be safe swallowing, and her care team is transitioning her diet from a wired‑jaw diet to soft foods that are a bit more appealing. Still very much a work in progress…not Chick‑fil‑A yet…but getting closer every day!
Later, she took a short ride around the pediatric unit in her fancy wheels, stopping to see the fish tank in the waiting room and the bubbles by the elevator. Small moments, but meaningful ones. 👩🏼🦽➡️
Rehabilitation is in Chelsea’s near future once insurance authorization is finalized. Because she is pediatric and recovering from a traumatic brain injury, she is being appropriately prioritized for this next level of care. Rehab will involve more intensive, functional therapies each day, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, neuropsychology, therapeutic recreation, child life services, and even visits from a therapy dog, which we know she will love! 🐶 One of the best parts? No more hospital gowns. She’ll be able to wear her sweatpants and hoodies again, a small but important step toward normalcy.
We remain deeply grateful for the skilled team guiding her care and for everyone continuing to support Chelsea as she moves forward, one day at a time.
Thank you for the love, encouragement, and patience as we walk this road with her.💗
