Today was a relatively calm and restful day for Chelsea.
From a medical standpoint, the team lifted her Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) precautions. This means she no longer needs to follow the earlier restrictions that have been in place the last 4 weeks, including limitations related to drinking from a straw, blowing her nose, straining, or maintaining the head of the bed at at least a 30 degree angle. We are grateful for this update and will continue to follow guidance from her care team.
Chelsea also participated in speech therapy today. The session focused on short‑term memory and language skills, using structured activities, such as the therapy dog trading cards she has collected, to support recall of factual information. This was sparked by her meeting Jily, a volunteer pet therapy dog today and Hunter yesterday. She also practiced writing, spelling, and basic recall exercises. Therapy continues to be carefully paced and tailored to her current needs.🦮
We were able to spend some time outside today enjoying the warmer weather and sunshine, which was a welcome change of scenery. Later, Chelsea walked into the PICU to visit. While she does not remember the care team she met there, she was greeted like a bit of a local celebrity, bringing big smiles to their faces…and to ours as well. 🥰
Nutrition continues to be an area we are paying close attention to, as Chelsea has not been eating as well as her body needs right now. The care team has emphasized the importance of getting more calories in to support healing. Tonight, that looked like enjoying a frozen hot chocolate from Panera…an easy win! 🥤
Overall, it was a quieter day that allowed for rest, gentle progress, and meaningful moments of connection. We remain grateful for the continued prayers, encouragement, and support surrounding Chelsea and our family as we move forward one day at a time. 💗
