Chelsea Brem and Family
Today, March 18, I turn 50 and Iām celebrating with a full heart. Not just because of the year it marks, but because of the meaning this week holds for our family.Ā
This week has brought a collection of milestones we donāt take lightly.Ā
On Sunday, March 15, Chelsea celebrated her 16th birthdayā¦a meaningful milestone, marked with gratitude for her strength and for the care and support surrounding her.Ā
On St. Patrickās Day, March 17, we celebrated Mikeās birthday, and the constant steadiness, patience, and love he brings to our family every single day.Ā
And today, I step into 50 feeling reflective, thankful, and deeply aware of how much there is to celebrate, even in the midst of challenge.Ā
Chelsea was discharged from the hospital today, March 18, 40 days after admissionā¦truly the best birthday present I could have asked for. Her transition home comes after weeks of dedicated medical care, therapy, and thoughtful planning, and we are incredibly grateful to be closing this chapter and moving forward.Ā
She will begin outpatient physical therapy and speech therapy later this week, continuing with a structured plan to support her ongoing care and recovery. We know this next phase brings continued work and focus, and weāre thankful to have a clear and supportive path ahead.Ā
These past weeks have unfolded during the Lenten season, a time that naturally invites reflection, patience, and trustā¦a rhythm that has aligned quietly with where weāve been.Ā
What makes this week feel especially full circle is something Mike and I keep coming back to.Ā
Sixteen years ago, on my birthday, we brought Chelsea home from the hospital as a newborn. Today, once again, this same date marks another homecoming connected to herā¦during a week filled with family birthdays and meaningful moments. The circumstances are very different, but the gratitude feels just as strong.Ā
This birthday feels less about the number and more about perspective. About pausing long enough to notice how life can echo in unexpected ways. About celebrating resilience, connection, and the people who walk alongside you through it all.Ā
There is so much to celebrate: the medical teams who have cared for Chelsea, the therapists who will continue supporting her, the steps that brought us to this moment, and the incredible community that has surrounded our family with prayers, encouragement, meals, messages, and kindness. We feel supported in ways weāll never forget.Ā
As we move forward, our focus remains on Chelseaās care and on maintaining the calm, consistency, and space she needs right now. Thank you for celebrating with us, for honoring that, and for being part of this meaningful chapter in our familyās story.š
