Update:
We got back to the room after a short walk late this afternoon for some fresh air and Carolina sunshine.
While we were gone, the nurse shared some encouraging news. When Chelsea was turned onto her side, she initiated her own breath. The nurse could see it clearly on the ventilator monitor in pink (green graph in the photo). The ventilator is set to deliver 18 breaths per minute, but she was breathing at 21 breaths per minute on her own.
And then, while she was on her side, she also coughed on her own without having her ventilator tubes suctioned, initiating it herself—another really encouraging sign.
These are big moments and hopeful milestones. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Moving forward, we’re going to try to keep updates to one per day so we can stay present and focused, but we felt this was an important post to share with you.
Thank you, as always, for the continued love, prayers, and support. We feel it every step of the way.
