Now that you know where I've been. Here is a quick update on my actual health.
I am in what we consider the "surveillance phase". They are watching me closely and I am taking Lynparza twice a day, which is a PARP inhibitor and relatively new for Ovarian cancer treatment. It is essentially a chemo pill and I am thankful because I feel like I am still fighting this ugly disease through medication daily. I will mention that this was developed for breast cancer and a dear friend of mine was patient 27 on the trial out of MD Anderson, they realized it was also effective for tumors with HRD, which my pathology report confirmed. I say that because they are making advancements every day and donations and walks and awareness all matter, so keep it up! I am also getting an Avastin infusion every 3 weeks through my port. The biggest side effects I have are every day joint pain and stiffness, as well as some fatigue.
My CA-125 count has also held steady around 7 or 8. It can never go to zero so 5 is essentially the lowest it can go. It was 446 the day I week I was diagnosed so that is incredibly positive. They will continue to watch that number as I get my bloodwork done every 3 weeks before my Avastin infusions. If it doubles 2x then they will order another scan but so far, so good.
I had a new PET scan last week and Dr. Yap is very happy with the progress I continue to make. I still have two small lesions (liver and behind where my uterus was) but they both continue to shrink and dim on the scan results, which is great news. I am on the right track to one day hear those sweet sweet words of "No Evidence of Disease".
That is all for now! I'll continue to share any noteworthy updates going forward.
