Healing - Steadily

We are still moving forward—slowly, steadily, and with so much gratitude for every sign of healing.

Jon’s left arm continues to be our primary focus. It absorbed such a tremendous impact from the explosion, so the healing there has naturally been slower. The new skin looks good, but it is still incredibly delicate—just like baby’s skin—and must be protected from even the smallest bump or scrape. His face, right arm and legs are looking so good! Without a doubt he carries the scars of his ordeal, but we know where he was and where he is now - and that keeps it in perspective. 

Jon is still working hard each day to regain his strength. There are still many dressing changes and much of our daily rhythm revolves around caring for him as his body continues the enormous work of healing.

We are trying to find our way back into the routines of ordinary life, although “normal” feels different after experiencing the kind of trauma our family has endured. For now, we are allowing ourselves to move at a slower pace. This is not only giving Jon’s body time to heal, but also gives us space to process what we have walked through together.

We also received wonderful news from the burn clinic: Jon is now stable enough that we no longer have to make weekly trips to Nashville! He will remain an outpatient for the foreseeable future, but this is a significant step forward! Every milestone in this event has been significant…just looking at the images from this week which represent only 5 weeks of healing since the blast! I’ve witnessed each day to this point and I will forever be in awe of the healing hand of God…and I’ll always be in awe of how strong Jon has been through this entire ordeal. He never complains nor has self pity - and simply pushes through with sheer determination. 

We remain deeply grateful for God’s mercy, for every bit of progress, and for each of you who continues to pray for us, encourage us, and walk beside our family.
