Teddie’s Journey To A Cure
🌼 Day +1
Today was a quiet one in transplant world — uneventful in all the ways we’re grateful for. Teddie is a little more tired today and still working out some of the preservatives used in her cryopreserved marrow.
🧄 Fun fact: the preservative used during transplant smells very specific — like garlicky tomato soup… or creamed corn, depending on who you ask. The smell filled the room during infusion, and Teddie has been hilariously honest about it ever since: “Ew, my breath stinky.”She’s not wrong — but she’s handling it all like a champ.
Despite the fatigue, Teddie played, watched a movie, and in true toddler fashion, fought nap time. She finally gave in around 6pm, snoozing peacefully for the first time all day. Her spark and stubborn spirit are still shining bright.
💛 We had some sweet moments of connection today — visits from a few of our favorite nurses, Anna and Amanda, which brought huge smiles. Familiar faces mean everything right now. And Teddie’s incredible child life specialist, Hailey, worked a small miracle: Last night, Teddie whispered that she was scared and needed a stuffy to sleep. Stuffed animals aren’t allowed in transplant rooms due to infection risk, but Hailey found one, removed all the stuffing, and sewed it back together in minutes so Teddie could cuddle something safe. The compassion in this place is extraordinary.
🏥 We are deeply grateful for the support system surrounding Teddie — both here at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and from all of you following her journey.
🙏 Please continue praying for our girl. Her labs look typical for Day +1, but her liver is working hard right now, and we’re starting to see some strain — her eyes are yellowing a bit, and her color is paler than usual. These are expected challenges, but every prayer helps carry her through.
Thank you for loving her with us.
