One Year Ago, My Life Changed With an Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis

It's been a year since we got the big news. I remember feeling shock and disbelief. So today, I thought I would update all of you who have been so kind and supportive. In January, the doctor said there were no signs of cancer, and I got to ring the bell! What a great feeling that was. They said we will see you every three months to make sure everything is okay. 

The part I haven't shared is when I went in April for my three month checkup, they found two small spots in my Pelvis. The Doctor said he was 80% sure it was cancer, but the tumors were too small to tell for sure and to return in two months. That date is fast approaching on June 29. While I am staying strong, praying, meditating, exercising and eating right, and I feel good, I am also very nervous. As June 29 approaches all kinds of thoughts are going through my head. The Doctor said if the tumors grow, we treat them. There are alternative ways of treatment rather than the traditional chemotherapy, like chemo pills, etc, but I won't know anything until after that appointment.

Through this journey, many of you have texted, called, and sent notes. You've brought us food, sent money, sent gift cards. You've prayed for us and with us. Your kindness and support have meant the world to us.

During my treatment, we faced some bumps, like when I had an allergic reaction to the first chemo. We had to change my treatment plan, and that wasn't easy. I also switched my medical care to Mayo Clinic because they offered a special treatment called HIPEC. It was a tough road, but we pushed through and the surgery was a huge success.

When my hair started falling out, I decided to shave it all off. Then I went through the bald is beautiful stage (with scarves and a great wig of course). Now my hair is growing back some and is very curly and salt and pepper. The Doctor said if I have to start treatment again, I shouldn't lose my hair again, unless we have to do the traditional chemo again.

We still keep going, and we are grateful for all the love and prayers from everyone. Greg and I don’t need much right now, but as we continue this path, we might need help again.
