Hello all,

Steven has once again surpassed all of our expectations! When Occupational Therapy visited on Monday, not only was he able to stand, but he took his first new steps. On Tuesday he used the walker unassisted for about 40 feet and was able to leave his room vertically for the first time since arriving. He really enjoyed being taken to some of the spots his family and I have been frequenting.

His surgery team was able to have the drain for his wound removed yesterday, which should make it much easier to move around. We have been informed that once he is well enough to be discharged, he will most likely go directly home until his leg heals enough to be fitted for a prosthetic. We are so thankful that our home is a single level, stair-free, and should require minimal modifications for his continued mobility.

Our next steps are to further reduce the pain management to a level that can be maintained outside of the hospital, work more with physical and occupational therapy, and get him out of the room as much as possible until he can be discharged.

Everyone has surrounded us with so much love. It has been such a comfort to know how many people are in our corner during the dark moments of this time. As we round the corner on one week, it's hard to grasp how far he has come in such a short time. Our spirits remain high and we are looking to the future with hope and determination.

All our love,
Victoria and Steven
