No Place Like Home

Time moves in a funny way since coming back home. It's a relief to be back in a familiar place, but boy, are there some challenges in the most mundane tasks. Our small home is both a blessing and a curse as we play "musical objects" depending on the needs of each day. Thankfully, Steven has always faced obstacles head-on, and this chapter is no different. Something that would be unbearably frustrating to me (like crab-walking a walker through a narrow bathroom) doesn't phase him in the least.

There was an issue getting some medications filled after discharge, which left him dealing with painful muscle spasms. After some less than helpful phone calls over the past few days, we finally got a "you never picked those up?", and were able to obtain the missing piece. It has made such a difference in his comfort level!

Each day still brings new unknowns and new adventures. Today Steven was feeling cooped up so we took a detour to Game Stop and browsed. Slowly but surely, our reality is settling in place. It is still filled with inappropriate jokes at exactly the wrong moment, laughter, and a new perspective on love.

We are endlessly grateful to the team of medical professionals who made his quick recovery possible. Without their capable care, we may still be adrift in the halls of the hospital instead of learning what our daily routines can look like. Their encouragement and engagement with his questions (like, "where is my removed limb, and can I have it as a souvenir") and concerns (like, "when will I stop feeling my toes") kept the days light and progressing.

There isn't a satisfying ending since we are very much at the beginning. For now, thank you for following along ❤️
