As Steven was being taken back to the operating room the night of the accident, he told me "everything is about to be different." At some point, we all have to experience some kind of "before and after" event in our lives. As in the rest of life, those events come with celebrations, difficulties, and goals.
Today we have reached one week of being home. A new routine is forming and we have even had room for a couple of outings! On Thursday we enjoyed the sun with a walk around a lake, sat and watched the ducks, and grabbed a coffee on the way home. It was an incredibly normal-feeling day. Thankfully the pain from his residual limb has been minimal now that some clerical issues are resolved.
On the other hand, Steven has been grappling with phantom pain that has left some days a mad scramble for relief. So far we have been able to find ways to cope using a variety of techniques, but it has not always come quickly or easily.
This upcoming Monday we will have a follow up with the surgery clinic at Harborview to go over his healing progress. Hoping for good news on that front and some direction on further management for the phantom pain.
Another significant milestone was reached today - our fundraising goal. We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the generosity of our community. It's truly incredible to see how everyone has shown up for us. While the path ahead still carries many unknowns, it is an immense comfort to know that we have financial support beyond our expectations. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every supporter who has donated, followed, or shared our story. You are appreciated more than you can know.
Thank you,
Victoria and Steven
