We had hoped the end of August would signal a return to some semblance of normalcy, but that was too much to ask for. In the past two weeks, my mom was admitted to the hospital with fluid building up around her lungs. The medical team drained it and kept her for a couple days of observation before discharging her. That was a bright spot because it coincided with her checkout date from the group home, so she got to go straight home from the hospital. In preparation for Mom’s return, the house was deep cleaned til it sparkled.
Dad also received good news; his surgeon cleared him to start going without the boot at night and for short distances inside the house for the next two weeks! After that, he can be fully bootless indoors, though he'll still need it outside the house for another two weeks after that.

But just as we started to catch our breath, mom was readmitted to the hospital with pneumonia. She has had more fluid accumulate around her lungs, so they plan to drain it again tomorrow and leave a catheter in until they resolve it. Mom is nauseous from the meds and she’s just generally miserable.
The last nine weeks have been a true roller coaster for our family, and it has worn everyone down. We would so appreciate your prayers for energy, strength, and healing as we keep navigating this journey together.
Best,
Bethany
