It has been about 2 weeks since Steve had his tracheostomy procedure.  Within the first week after, he was starting to make significant gains.  Since our last update, they have been able to get Steven sitting in a chair, and even better, for long periods of the day he has been OFF the ventilator!!  He still needs oxygen support, but still very positive news!  They put a speaking valve in his trach so he is able to communicate better.  We are still attempting to use communication boards and an iPad, but his fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination still need improvement for that method of communication to be effective.

All that to say.... the last few days, his progress has slowed again and is back to making tiny gains if any at all.  The doctors are still trying to figure out the best combination to safely wean him from sedation medications.

We are still so grateful that his breathing has improved and we know that he will eventually get there.  Thank you so much for everyone's ongoing love and support.  It truly takes a village.
