Hey everyone! Joy here.👋🏼
Michael, Aliza & I are driving home from a long day at clinic, and I wanted to quickly update you all.
This morning, Aliza was scheduled to receive a 1hr infusion of chemotherapy, followed by one hour of monitoring. She had received this specific type of chemo once before, and did well that time. However, the risk of an allergic reaction increases each time it is given. Today, just a couple minutes into her infusion, she had an anaphylactic reaction. The clinic staff responded quickly and appropriately to help Aliza, but it was scary for her (and for us). Due to her allergic reaction, that type of chemo is no longer an option for Aliza, and we will need to go an alternative route with her treatment. The good news is, Aliza is doing well now & feeling much better, but is worn out (as picturedđź’›).
For the alternative treatment, we will need to bring her to clinic each Monday, Wednesday & Friday for the next two weeks to receive a shot in her thigh muscle. This was not unexpected, but also not what we had hoped for. There are things we can do to help her before those shots are given (numbing cream, cold spray, etc…). We will do the best we can to make the most of those appointment days!
Thank you for your continued prayers for Aliza! She’s a trooper, and is so brave. We are so very proud of her and how she is handling all of these treatments and curve balls thrown her way. She’s so resilient!
That’s all for now! I’ll be in touch.
