Stem Cells for Ella
Today marks two months since Ella’s stem cell treatment, and we’ve officially entered the exciting window where real, tangible results can begin to appear. Stem cells work in phases, and around this time their growth factors are most active! They’re busy repairing tissue, calming inflammation, and stimulating new growth where her body needs it most.
One of the most surprising and fascinating changes we’ve noticed recently is the appearance of new, colorful clusters of veins. At first this was shocking, but it’s actually a remarkable sign of healing. Stem cells release signals like VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), which trigger angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels. These new vessels bring oxygen and nutrients into areas that were once under-supplied, helping tissues function in ways they couldn’t before. For Ella, that means her most spastic muscles may finally start getting the nourishment they need to relax and move more freely. Increased circulation in her chest muscles could also strengthen breathing and swallowing, two areas that require both power and coordination. Even her vision may benefit as the fragile nerves around her eyes receive more blood flow and support.
As we move into this next month, our focus will be on consistency. Keeping Ella healthy, staying diligent with her home therapy regimens, and making sure her body has every opportunity to maximize the benefits of these cells. In just a few weeks, we’ll head to Tennessee for a three-week DMI PT and OT intensive at Climb. The timing couldn’t be better. Intensives push her body to build on new neurological connections, and doing this during the most active window of stem cell repair gives her the best chance at translating cellular changes into lasting functional progress.
We’re filled with anticipation for what the next month will bring. These visible signs on the surface are reminders that deep, powerful repair is happening inside and we cannot wait to see how Ella’s strength, movement, and abilities begin to unfold.
Specific prayer requests: For Ella to stay healthy until we leave for Tennessee, for continued improvements in sleep and for the new vascular systems to improve spasticity.
