The past couple of weeks and days have been a whirlwind, but I did want to take a moment and update things to the best of my ability. Our care plan is changing daily, so right now, this update will probably be out of date by the end of the day!
After a two week delay in chemotherapy due to an ear infection and abscess, we were finally able to get some chemo beginning on Monday. Along with our chemo, came a very unexpected update from our oncology team. At this time, they feel that Eva's body is not recovering from the chemo as quickly as it should and therefore, they would like to stop this chemo regimen in about two months. Our next scans are planned for June 1st and then they said that we would need to make some care plan decisions from there. Our team urged me to research and look for trials that were available and new treatment options, while at the same time preparing for Eva to be on a "maintenance drug" because we are "lucky" and her body still shows signs of disease.
Needless to say, Eva is upset and our family has spent lots of time in prayer and tears. At this time our plan is as follows. We KNOW the power of PRAYER.  We are standing in faith believing that Eva's counts are going to bounce back like they need to and we are going to continue this chemo that has been working until the tumor is completely dead and gone. If we do not, the LORD is going to provide a way for us to go to another hospital and begin a new journey to kill this cancer once and for all. Maybe this is God's way of telling us to be a part of a trial and help millions of other kiddos fight and beat cancer too. Maybe, this is the time that we need to just trust in God and HIS healing power. Maybe, this is the trial that is going to bring God's people together even more and create new believers in Him. Regardless, Eva is ready to fight and told us over and over that her body is not done. I am standing in faith believing that the next scans will show the tumor to be dead, the insurance will work out, and Eva will seamlessly transition from active chemotherapy to a maintenance drug that will keep the cancer at bay until scientists can find the targeted drug therapy that will keep it at bay forever. Our favorite doctor has always said that she is a tool of God and that through her, he is able to heal. I believe that.
During one of my recent sleepless nights, I took the time to research what a Lancer is. The definition is a warrior of honor armed with a lance to breach enemy lines and create disruption. We all know that Eva is literally the definition of a mighty Lancer. She is a warrior and she will disrupt this world and the scientific community until she is healed. Her strength and faith are beyond what I can attempt to understand and that is because she wears that armor of Christ continuously and fights knowing that her battle is already won. Stand in faith with me and my family. Put on your battle gear and pray hard. #Evastrong isn't just a hashtag, it is a battle cry. FIGHT AND PRAY LIKE A LANCER. FIGHT AND PRAY LIKE A CHRISTIAN!
