Cyclophosomide is a chemotherapy drug that is has been around for many years. When combined with Topotecan another strong chemotherapy drug, it goes to work kicking Ewing Sarcoma butt, but it leaves lasting effects. Issues that we would never dream of.
Three weeks ago we were inpatient for an entire week. During that time we treated Eva for an infected sinus that had been closed off by the tumor and hemoratic cystitis, which is a burning and bleeding of the bladder. At that time we decided to stop the chemo regimen Eva was on and begin a maintenance drug. At the time before we were dismissed, Eva had a bladder and kidney scan showing that she had a few small clots in her bladder, that could easily be passed with sufficient hydration. Today, after being in pain and passing clots since Monday, the doctor's rescanned the bladder and found a large blood clot.
Tonight, after two hours in an operating room, they removed the largest clot that they have ever removed without having to open the abdomen and removed a softball sized clot from my child. In case you haven't been following, last week she cooked 4 foods and entered them in the fair. She sewed two items, one of them receiving reserve grand champion and then she turned around and had 3 crafts judged and was there for her in person sewing judging. She also managed to sell over 700.00 of 4H tickets to make her brother Runner -up King James. All of this, while growing and carrying a softball sized blood clot in her small bladder. All of this, without William and I knowing. All of this, because she wanted to feel like a regular kid and show her skills at the county fair.
This whole story is tragic, but perhaps the MOST tragic thing is.... the surgeon apologized for the fact that the instruments she had to use and the issue itself is generally an "adult sized problem" and only "adult sized tools are available. So... the next time you are out playing softball, look at that ball, and take a picture of it.... post it and remind the world the pediatric cancer sucks! #Evastrong
