When I think about Sophia's community involvement, her t-ball team "The Incredibles" pops into my head right away! I cannot say enough about how much we love Sophia’s T-ball league. The city of Moore organizes an adaptive t-ball league for people of all abilities to enjoy. It is free to families and the league pays for the uniforms, they organize volunteers for each game, they have walk-up songs for each player and it is the sweetest most heart-warming community activity we do. I’ll be honest when I heard about it, I thought watching someone help Sophia bat and then push her around the bases could be a little boring. Sophia definitely isn’t going to be catching flies or throwing anyone out at first base.

But let me tell you the first time we went I knew I was wrong. Sophia lights up at the games. She is excited and smiling and watching all the players and volunteers. She loves being outside, the lights, the music and the volunteers. There have been so many great groups of people that want to spend an hour pushing Sophia and her teammates around the field in their chairs. They help them hold the ball and throw, they help them bat, but what Sophia loves the most is when someone kneels down next to her in the field and has a long chat with her while the other team is batting. There have been so many times where I look out from the bleachers to see her smiling up at the face of whoever she’s been partnered with just enjoying a conversation with someone new!

For Sophia and her peers having the opportunity to be part of a team doesn’t come up a lot, and having a special place in the community just for them to gather and have fun is rare too! Normally if the disabled community comes together it’s at therapy, a school event, a fundraiser, or a medical setting. They are all places that are set apart from normal society specifically for the disabled. But baseball is for everyone and Sophia and her friends get to be right in the middle of it! What a blessing!
