Cincinnati Appt 5/21
Shannon Dingey
Cincinnati appt went ok. No new insights at this time. My doctor is looking into possible trials for treatment since my GI symptoms are still not well controlled. It is hard to say right now if the symptoms I'm experiencing are Mastocytosis and/or Gastroparesis which is making it challenging for my doctors to figure out how to treat them.
My doctor had me do an aspirin challenge to see if I would tolerate it and would be able to be started on it to help with postglandin levels. Aspirin has always been on my allergy list but I have never been given it so my reaction to it was unknown. They gave me a baby aspirin and had me wait 20 mins and I had not reaction so they discharged me. But my mom and I stopped to eat after and 15 minutes into eating I got severe stomach pain and nausea. We quickly left and started to head home. I took a Reglan pill and 2 Benadryl in hopes of calming the flare down but 30 minutes later we ended up having to stop so I could throw up. We made the decision to call the on call oncology nurse line at the James since the allergy office I had the appt at was closed (it was after 5) to see what I should do. They had me come in to be seen and get IV treatment to get the flare under control. I was able to be send that night at 8. IV Benadryl, Pepcid, and Zofran calmed symptoms down. It was a short trip, I was discharged around 11:30. Not at all the way we were expecting the appointment to go.
