Back in the hospital
Shannon Dingey
Since leaving the hospital I have struggled to drink enough to stay hydrated because of the nausea. I only peed twice both Friday and yesterday, and they were almost orange and my mouth was very dry so it was evident I was dehydrated. I hadn't had a BM since Tuesday. And yesterday late morning I started experienced stomach pain. I wasn't doing well. I despised coming back to the hospital but knew I needed too. I need some relief, need medical intervention beyond the meds I have at home, and need to continue to fight for answers. I came back to the ICC last night. They gave me the standard Mastocytosis flare protocol for me which is IV Benadryl, IV Pecid, and double IV Zofran. They gave me a bolus right away for dehydration and a suppository for the constipation. The IV meds helped some but not much so they gave me another IV Benadryl. The suppository allowed me to have a small BM. A urine test showed that I had a moderate amount of ketones in my urine which they said was caused by the dehydration. It was good I came in when I did because ketones can be very dangerous if left untreated. Overall my symptoms had improved a little but I wasn't confident going home, I knew it was unlikely I would be able to stay hydrated, I didn't think the constipation was fully resolved, and I was still battling the nausea and wanted to get to being able to eat more and the nausea being a lot more controlled before I went home. So I'm currently admitted again.
