We have some big news to share — Mikey is heading home today! After a long and emotional week, we are both nervous and excited to get him back home and begin navigating his care outside of the hospital. It’s about a 4-hour drive, so please keep us in your thoughts as we make the trip.

The doctors ultimately decided not to go through the dura during surgery because there was a major blood vessel on the right side that made it too risky. Instead, they focused on the left side, which is where most of the issues seemed to be. The surgery went well, and we are so thankful for that. 🙏

On day two post-op, Mikey was able to move out of the PICU and onto the neuro floor, which was such a huge relief for him (and for us). We jumped right into PT and OT, and they even got Mikey on a mat playing — which helped so much with his recovery! From that point on, he was a total rock star. 🌟

For pain, we kept it simple with just diazepam, and we managed nausea with Zofran. At one point, we had to stop Tylenol when his liver enzymes spiked (from 29 all the way into the 500s 😳), but thankfully, they are trending back down — this morning they were at 325. Hepatitis testing came back negative, which was a huge relief.

As we head home and begin this next chapter, we could really use some extra support, especially with meals while we adjust to caring for Mikey and balancing everything at home. If anyone would like to help with food, it would mean so much to us. ❤️
