Scott & Dawn Russell
Thank you so much for your support of Scott Russell and his family. Your kind and generous donations are helping Dawn to stay focused on Scott's care. ♥️
Scott is currently being treated for a blood infection with chemotherapy infusions at an interval of every 2 weeks.
He has lost close to 40 lbs since he was hospitalized one month ago.
He has a trach tube to assist him with breathing and gastro tube for feeding.
Thankfully, Scott has shown some improvement by intermittently opening his eyes and assisting the ventilator by taking breaths on his own! 😊
He does respond to pain stimuli, but is not conscious. MRI shows damage to the brain, the extent of which will only be known in the eventuality that he regains consciousness and undergoes testing. The current theory is that he may be left with permanent stroke-like symptoms, but only time will tell.
Because extended time in the ICU can cause additional infection, he has been moved out of ICU into a private room where he is monitored and treated 24/7.
At this time, there is no predictable prognosis as rhombencephalitis is extremely rare. Scott's journey to healing will depend upon the chemo treatment to eradicate the blood infection and continued methods of reducing swelling in his brain.
Dawn is with Scott at the hospital every day and evening. All of their children have been visiting Scott in the hospital and continue to pray for his recovery.
*Anything our support community can do to help, via sharing the fundraising page and / or continued support and prayers, will help Scott and Dawn focus on Scott's healing.
**While it is difficult for Dawn to respond to individual messages of concern, know that she is receiving them and appreciates everyone's love and support.
Sincerely,
Nicole (Catanzaro) Bruland
