A Second Hospital Stay

Sarah was readmitted to the hospital on Wednesday after a procedure to remove excess fluid from her abdomen. Her white blood cell count and electrolytes were low, but have since both improved. She has something called ‘re-feeding syndrome,’ which basically means that her body is adjusting to all the nutrients being provided by the IV nutrition. She’ll likely be in the hospital for a few more days while the medical team adjusts the nutritional formula and continues to monitor her condition.

Sarah’s energy has come back a bit this week and she’s now asking Grant, our dad, and me to ‘entertain her.’ In addition to long talks, we’ve been able to distract her with magazines, word searches, cards, and messages received from many of you. Thank you for sending joy and hope!

This week we are praying for a reduction in fluid build up, swelling, and lactic acid; continued improved health with an absence of infection; and the opportunity for Sarah to start her second round of chemo on Wednesday.

This is good news! Wanting to be entertained is definitely heading in the right direction. Kate and Dad, you need to work up a tap dance routine. My hope is for another round of chemo that will push you even more toward your goal of being the one who entertains, rather than the captive audience of bad tap dance routines. We've been checking this site daily for updates; thank you! I find myself thinking of Sarah, Grant and the girls so many times everyday. Please continue to update any requests for help (or reach out directly) - especially if the girls need anything at all. We are praying hard for God's healing, strength & comfort.

Dear Sarah, you have been heavy on my heart these past few days so I’m praying for you, Grant and your little girls. I wish I lived closer to go and see you, but I know how powerful prayer is and I won’t discount what God can do even from far away, With Him all things are possible.
