More good news!

Friends, family, colleagues, supporters.. great news: the pathology report from surgery confirmed no evidence of disease!

If you’ve ever had a close loss, had a difficult medical challenge, or have been through a similar situation when you’ve received overwhelming support from your community, you know how tough it is to adequately express the gratitude for every big and small thing. Every text, comment, mention of healing thoughts/prayers, donation and meal has not gone unnoticed, and I couldn’t be more thankful for all of you.

Healing from the mastectomy has gone beautifully, and I was able to get my port out this week. The hardest part of the last month has been to follow my restrictions and not over-do it (are we surprised?). The World Cup provided a timely distraction, but it has felt great to start easing back into more physical outdoor activities this week.

What’s next? I’ll continue one medication that is in the form of an injection every 3 weeks for 6 more months, and another medication for the next 5 years to keep targeting the hormone drivers of my cancer, but as far as I know, all of the difficult “big” things are behind me. The reconstruction timeline is still TBD, but will likely go into next year. I plan on returning back to work as normally as possible in mid-August.

A special shout out to my Mom and roommate Anna for being my post-surgery support and gracefully dealing with a highly independent/stubborn patient.

Pictured: a SUPER special beer release from the NH brewery I was lucky enough to work for, doing my PT stretches by the river, and a sister’s visit.

It was with indescribable joy that I read your latest update! As always, you add light and glee to everything around you. I will confess to breaking a sigh of relief at the news, though there be no surprises here! I knew in my heart that you would be victorious in your battle against this heinous foe. We all know cancer doesn't discriminate, but your joy for life along with your compassion, empathy, integrity and just being a wonderful human being should be lessons to us all. I've said it before, but it bears repeating - the world is an infinitely better place when you are living your best life... The universe has provided you with some powerful lessons. Only you know what they are. Incorporate them into your day to day and remain ever joyous - but vigilant. This disgusting disease doesn't take defeat easily and is constantly looking for an opportunity to inflict its evil any way it can. Be strong and be healthy. The mountains and rivers are calling. I know their song is like an ear worm in your head. Embrace it and continue to dance with life! We are ALL the better for it. Go outside and play!!!
