Starting Over: An Update From Michigan

It’s been almost two weeks since I made it safely to Michigan, and I wanted to share a real update on where things stand.

Getting here was only the first part of the plan. Since arriving, I’ve been working hard to make this house livable, get myself settled, and begin rebuilding my income and my life.

There has been a LOT to do. I’ve been clearing things out of the house and garage, cleaning, organizing, getting things functional again, handling all the little things that come with starting over — and I even mowed the lawn myself, which was honestly a pretty big deal for me. 😂

My aunt and uncle have been absolutely wonderful. They’ve helped me get settled and have provided things I desperately needed, including a washer and dryer and other household necessities. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have stepped in and helped make this transition possible.

At the same time, I’ve been working hard to get income coming in. I’ve been networking like crazy, attending BNI meetings, reaching out to referral partners, rebuilding Smart Living Skills here in Michigan, doing remote work, selling through Poshmark, holding garage sales, and looking for every reasonable way I can to bring money in.

I am making progress — but I’m still in a very difficult financial position.

To be completely transparent, I’m currently two months behind on my vehicle payments, and I still owe approximately $1,200 to the mechanic who repaired the van so I could make the move to Michigan. On top of that are normal living expenses like groceries, gas, utilities, household needs, and the expenses involved in getting my business established again.

Emotionally, this has also been much harder than I expected. I’m grieving the end of my marriage, dealing with depression, and feeling very homesick for Alabama. I miss my friends, my church community, my clients, and the life I had there. Starting over is exciting in some ways, but it is also exhausting and painful.

I’m trying very hard to keep moving forward even on the days when I don’t feel particularly strong.

If you have already donated, shared this page, prayed for me, checked on me, helped me with the house, or encouraged me along the way — thank you. I truly mean that.

And if you’re able to help financially or share this page again, I still very much need the support. Every donation right now helps buy me time to keep working, networking, and rebuilding until my income becomes steady again.

Making it to Michigan was a huge milestone.

Now I’m working on the much bigger task of building a life here. ❤️
