Good evening, everyone!

We have another update to share, and this one comes with some exciting news: SAM IS HOME!

Sam was officially discharged Thursday afternoon after spending one night in the hospital. To everyone's surprise, apparently, unless a patient requires another immediate surgery, the hospital typically only keeps them for that one overnight stay. Needless to say, we weren't quite expecting that!

Wednesday night was a pretty rough night for Sam. She was experiencing quite a bit of pain, but eventually the medication kicked in, and she was able to get some much-needed rest. However, when I walked in Thursday morning with that big cup of coffee for her she woke right up!

We made it home around 4 PM, and the kids couldn't have been happier! They (and even the dog!) were beyond excited to have Mommy home. Everyone was competing for her attention, and it was quite the welcome-home celebration. ❤️

For the most part, Sam has been doing well with taking it easy and getting some rest. However, I have already caught her trying to get the kids lunches prepared for Friday and I had to remind her that she's supposed to be resting only so either she needed to get back on the couch, or I was going to move her to the couch myself! Reluctantly, she listened.

We're slowly getting into a new routine with her medications and taking care of the drains. It's definitely an adjustment, but we're figuring it out one day at a time.

Unfortunately, Sam will have to miss McKenzie's field trip on Friday, but I'll be going in her place instead so McKenzie is still happy that one of us will be there with her.

UPCOMING APPOINTMENTS:

We have two important follow-ups coming up:

  • November 4th: Appointment with Dr. Bidic (reconstruction) to see if the tubes can be removed.
  • November 6th: Follow-up appointment with Dr. Quarterman.

  • For now, the focus is on keeping Sam comfortable, allowing her body time to heal, and making sure she doesn't overdo it.

We know there is still a road ahead, but we're incredibly thankful for how far she's come and for the positive news we've received along the way.

We deeply appreciate everyone who continues to pray for Sam, check in on her, send encouraging messages, and support our family. Every single message, prayer, and kind gesture means more than you know.

Please continue to keep Sam in your prayers as she recovers. We have more milestones ahead, and we'll continue sharing updates as we navigate this journey together.

For now, we're celebrating being home, having Mommy back with the kids, and taking things one day at a time.

    With love and gratitude,
Thank you all for being part of Sam's journey! ❤️

Joe and I are praying daily for Sam’s recovery. Sounds like she is doing daily well considering all she has been through. Thanks for the update. It helps to know specifically what to pray for.

Recovery is hard! You want to jump back in and do everything you did before (which Sam has already tried). There's such a fine line between what's okay to do and overdoing it. You find out where that line is after you've already crossed it. Each day you get through the line inches farther and farther. When you get discouraged look back and see how far you've come. Resting isn't being lazy. Resting is your job right now! Praying hard!!!!!!
