There are so many updates for the last 2 weeks! Ryan celebrated the 2 year anniversary of his miraculous survival on February 6th. That day, between his therapies, we took Ryan to see his little sister compete her dance solo. It meant the world to her. We felt so much gratitude to have all of our children there. Exactly 2 years earlier they were there for Ryan, and today they were there for their little sister. What a gift to support each other through all "hard things", as brothers and sisters who love each other to the core. We almost lost our Ryan 2 years ago and have fought every day since to help him recover and live his precious life feeling loved and encouraged. On that anniversary, on a day we could have felt overwhelmed with grief for the trauma and losses we've experienced, God covered us in peace and palpable joy that flowed from the deepest gratitude in our souls. We are so grateful to have Ryan here with us, alive, and healing.
The next morning, Ryan's aunt Tia Erin hosted a small, beautiful benefit yoga class under the trees and Ryan was able to do the stretches and breathing exercises with Dad's help and his family surrounding him.
Sadly, that afternoon, Ryan's grandmother fell at her home and was admitted to the hospital. Ryan was able to visit her, share smiles, laughter and hugs in the hospital and on February 10th, sweet Grandma Hinze went to be with Jesus. Ryan had a very special relationship with his grandma and deeply grieved her passing. We all take comfort knowing she's at peace in the eternally loving arms of our Heavenly Father. As we prepare for her celebration of life this next week, we ask for prayers of peace and comfort.
Ryan has continued to work hard in his therapies these past 2 weeks, even through it all, still showing up to daily hyperbaric oxygen therapy, physical therapy, speech, occupational therapy, and weekly neuro-acupuncture and voice therapy. We are all exhausted and try to recharge on the weekends with extra rest, time in nature and Sunday worship.
NAPA Center in Austin called and scheduled Ryan's 3 week intensive for March 9th-27th, with a M-F 4-hour daily schedule of 1 hour of occupational therapy and 3 hours of physical therapy which includes 2 hours in the NeuroSuit and 1 hour of Spider Cage therapy- DAILY! We feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to have Ryan take part in this intensive rehabilitation program and have each of you to thank for this incredible therapy experience to help Ryan move toward his goals of walking independently and gaining full function of his hands and arms. Please pray for us as we make all the preparations for this trip!! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for walking beside us and being a blessing on Ryan's Road to Recovery! It means the world to us, and to our brave and loving warrior, Ryan!
Praise: We praise God for saving Ryan's life 2 years ago and continuing to heal him!! We praise God for the beautiful life of Ryan's grandma, Marcia Hinze and the example she gave us of always trusting in the Lord and loving unconditionally!! We praise God for getting Ryan scheduled for his 3-week intensive at NAPA!
Prayer: We pray for peace and comfort as we celebrate the life of Ryan's grandmother this coming Thursday. We pray for all the preparations that need to be made to take Ryan to Austin for three weeks of therapy. We pray for massive healing, progress in Ryan's recovery, and his cognitive and physical strength to be fully restored!
Progress: We got Ryan's NAPA schedule! Yay! Ryan has made progress in his monthly speech testing score including number of words that could be understood when he speaks and remembering a list of items with more accuracy. Ryan also improved in his occupational therapy testing of his grip strength and dexterity with moving small items. Ryan also improved in his ability to be minimally supported to go from sitting on the floor, to kneeling to using an adjacent therapy table to lean and stand up!! Praise Jesus!
Thank you and God bless you,
Hanna and Marc Hinze
