Rowan Wallace and Family
I’m writing this while on Fall Break in North Carolina and am so grateful for the time to pause and just reflect on the AMAZINGNESS of the last few days. THANK YOU!! We cannot believe that in 2.5 days, Rowan (and our family) has received so much support for a handicap accessible vehicle. What a reminder of the community we have and of the beauty of people!
Today I’m sharing what mobility looks like for kids like Rowan with triplegic cerebral palsy (all limbs but his right arm are impacted). Weight bearing exercise for hip development is so important and so equipment like gait trainers (aka walkers) and standers have been developed to support this. This allows him to practice walking and also enable him to be eye-to-eye with peers and interact more easily with his Tobii Dynavox for communication. As you can see, he has to work so hard and needs some motivation (the movie Cars!) just like other toddlers. This equipment just gets larger and larger as he grows, but we are a family who loves adventures and so are grateful for the help in obtaining a larger, more equipped vehicle to support these types of items.
Thanks again for your support of #TeamRowan and please continue to share! We’ve so enjoyed sharing this journey with our kids and their sweet amazement at the generosity of people, some of whom we have never met.
Love,
Katie, Reece, Emerson, Rowan, Ellie, and Holcomb
