It’s been a while since we’ve posted due to the chaos of this month with my job being busy, Reece traveling, school activities, and illnesses. Despite the push and pull of life, WOW have we experienced some miracles through God’s grace & the amazingness of people these last few weeks, and especially, THIS WEEK.

WE ARE SOOO EXCITED AND OVERWHELMED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE HAVE MET OUR $70,000 GOAL for a handicap-accessible vehicle for Rowan and our family!!! If you’re still interested in donating or continuing to follow Rowan’s journey, please see:

We’ve learned to never underestimate the goodness of people, as I think my often too rational and skeptical brain would have guessed we would raise $10,000. In celebration of the generosity of people, we wanted to take this time to not only highlight some of the amazing donations we’ve received but also share some of the lasting memories we’ve made because of #TeamRowan. Here are just a few:
  1. An Educational and Emotional Outlet:The number of people willing to share this post with so many others and who have reached out saying thank you for the information and education surrounding Rowan’s journey, cerebral palsy, life as a family with a child with disabilities, etc. has been overwhelming.  Reece and I also didn’t realize what a therapeutic outlet this platform would be for us.  I think we can all relate to the fact that you don’t realize all that you know and all that you do (often explaining why we are all so tired 😉) until you take the time to process it and write it out. #TeamRowan has been a gift to us mentally and emotionally as well as financially.
  2. Connections with New & Existing Friends: so many have donated that we don’t even know but have felt compelled to help after hearing Rowan’s story. THANK YOU! We’ve had Purdue donors (Boiler Up!), friends & family donors, UK Healthcare/pharmacy family donors, and so many others who have shown their support. I even got to reconnect with my 6th grade teacher on a day where I really needed it and was overwhelmed by his donation and story of his own grandchild’s difficult first few months in the world.
  3. Funny Mistakes w/ Positive Financial Consequences: Reece and I have raised our kids alongside another amazing family and we’ve had the joy of hanging out with some of their parents as we went from 1 to 4 kids pretty quickly. My sweet friend handed me an envelope with a donation from the parents. I quickly opened it, looked at the check, and ran in to say thank you.  I went to cash the check and noted my friends’ names on the envelope, rather than the parents. I was in a rush and didn’t think anything of it until I went to cash a few other checks. Something nudged me to look in the envelope again and I thought “I don’t remember that many zeroes!” Little did I know that there were two checks in that envelope; one from my sweet friends with a generous donation and a second from the parents with a$10,000 donation! I wish all mistakes were that happy. I had so much fun calling the parents and thanking them again for the check I almost didn’t notice!
  4. Great Friends & Generous Foundations:I have some pretty fantastic friends from college that continue to be my best friends to this day. One of those couples immediately reached out to us when they heard about the fundraiser to say that their company had a foundation dedicated to helping friends & families in situations exactly like these.  They made it so easy for us to apply and were so supportive of our story, and we found out just this week that we have been given a $10,000 donation to support Rowan!  We are so grateful for generous companies like these that make it a priority to give back to those that need some help along the way.
  5. Ironic Timing & A Flag Football Finish:Literally as I had finished this update, stating that we were at 92% of our goal, we had some great friends, who we met through flag football, reach out to us. They’ve had a really hard year themselves, but got some amazing news today, and decided to pay the blessing forward by donating $6000 to help us reach our goal! The irony of the timing, and the generosity of this family, is just another amazing miracle and reminder that God always provides, often through the people around us.

All this additional outpouring of support for #TeamRowan occurred the week after Rowan received his new wheelchair (pictured below in Purdue colors of course) with power assist wheels that allow Rowan to use a joystick to be mobile! He’s still learning how to use it, but it will allow him to “run around” and engage with his siblings more and be a part of the action.  This power wheelchair weighs above 60 pounds, and your generosity is allowing us to purchase a van this year so that we can easily push it up the ramp to transport his equipment and our family on future adventures. You all are amazing!

Love,

The Wallace’s
