💙 A Message from Romeo's Family

I am reaching out on behalf of my husband, Romeo Perez.

On July 14th, Romeo was intentionally struck by a car in a vicious antisemitic hate crime simply because he is Jewish.

✡️ Some people wear their identity quietly.

My husband, Romeo Perez, wears his with absolute pride.

If you know Romeo, you know a man who lights up a room with his warmth, his strength, and his deep devotion to his faith. He carries a rich, beautiful Jewish heritage: his late father was a Sephardic Jew from Guatemala- where Pérez is a historic Sephardic surname tracing back to the biblical Hebrew name Peretz- and his mother is Ashkenazi.

Romeo lived that heritage openly every day.

On the day our lives changed forever, Romeo stepped outside doing what he always does- living his faith.

He was proudly wearing his ✡️ Star of David around his neck and his tzitzit at his side.

💔 He never made it home the same way.

In a terrifying second...

A driver targeted Romeo in an intentional, violent act of hate.

As the car accelerated toward him, the driver was shouting hostile chants at his identity before striking him down simply because he was visibly Jewish.

Rather than showing a shred of human empathy or remorse as Romeo lay severely injured on the ground, the driver’s immediate reaction was pure hostility—hurling explicit anti-Jewish slurs, displaying clear bias, and callously complaining about her broken windshield while my husband fought for his breath.

The impact changed everything.

The impact left Romeo with devastating injuries, including damage to his T3-T4 spine, his pelvis, and his tailbone.

In seconds, the man who was always the strong, unshakeable foundation of our family was left immobilized in a hospital bed, forced to fight for his basic mobility.

The physical agony he faces every morning is immense, accompanied by the deep emotional trauma that now lingers in our home.

With Romeo completely unable to work, the sudden financial weight of mounting medical bills, long-term spinal rehabilitation, and necessary home adaptations has become an overwhelming burden.

❤️ Yet, despite the pain, Romeo’s spirit remains unbroken.

He wants to walk again.

He wants to hold our family up the way he always has.

But he cannot walk this long road alone.

We are pouring everything we have into Romeo’s physical recovery, but our fight extends beyond healing his body- we are also fighting for justice.

We are securing an aggressive legal team to hold the driver fully accountable, both in criminal court and through a civil lawsuit.

This fight is about far more than just our family; it is about sending an unmistakable message to the world that antisemitic violence will never be normalized, ignored, or tolerated.

🤝 When hate tries to tear a family apart, it is community that holds them together.

Today, we are reaching out to our friends, the Jewish community, and every person of goodwill who stands against hate to walk alongside us.

🙏 How You Can Help

Whether through a 💝 donation- you can contribute any amount, big or small, and donations can be made anonymously if you prefer- sharing this story with your community, or keeping Romeo in your prayers, every single gesture gives him strength.

Romeo spent his life standing tall and proud in who he is.

Now, we are asking for your help to stand by his side until he can stand on his own two feet again.

✨ Together, we will prove that love, faith, and justice are far stronger than hate.

With deep love and gratitude,

❤️ Romeo's wife & Family
