I have tried writing this in so many different ways, but no words are right for this moment.
We are preparing for Paloma to go to Heaven.
The beginning of this week feels a lifetime away already. We thought we were bringing Paloma into the hospital to be treated for something treatable. However, this morning we received news that at this point, it is not treatable. Her heart is failing, and the rest of her body is starting to follow. The doctors have told us she has a few days to a week, at most. They have always been pretty straightforward, letting us know if we were doing things for her or to her at any point. And right now, everything was leaning towards doing things to her.
She was discharged today and comfort care is our priority for her.
We wanted her to be home with us, with her siblings, with her family so we can laugh, cry, and love on her for as long as she continues to be on this side of Heaven.
Right now, she is in and out of sleep, she is vocalizing, and using her talker whenever she feels like it. She called for me and Alan, a little bit ago using her talker, and we're gonna miss that voice so freaking much.
Our home health nurses are amazing and we feel lucky to have them with us so we can sleep (as much as we can). And hospice is supporting us in every capacity we need, too. We can call them any time and they'll come to us 24/7.
We feel covered with love both near and far, most especially now in these hardest of days. Thank you for continuing to walk our littlest journey with us and Paloma.

I’ve been following your journey and want to thank you for sharing your lives so openly. Paloma, your light has touched so many hearts, including mine. Mom, your love and strength have been a gift to witness. I’m holding you both close in my thoughts as you prepare for Paloma’s journey to heaven.
