Adaptive equipment

One of the challenges we face is figuring out what the right piece of equipment is without being able to trial it. There have been a few home runs, The TushBaby was probably our best find. We’ve had a few that haven’t worked and we’ve donated to others.

For hikes, we’ve been trying to make our Osprey pack from when my daughter was a baby/toddler work but it just isn’t. We’ve used pool noodles, rolled up towels, his Hensinger collar. Nothing works and leaves him supported and comfortable.

I’ve been eyeing the We Carry Kevan pack but am hesitant to purchase it without trying it first, as it’s not cheap of course (none of the equipment he needs is).

My dream is a fully stocked lending library where kids could come and try things out before spending time hunting down grants or fighting insurance.

For now, my husband is carrying him on the trails. We’re lucky his forearms can handle being a piece of adaptive equipment.
