Norma's journey has taken an unexpected turn, but we're hopeful it will lead to better care and a smoother recovery.

Due to concerns about the care she was receiving, Norma made the difficult decision to leave the hospital against medical advice (AMA). At 1:00 a.m., she traveled 1.5 hours to another hospital where she has a strong support system and medical staff who know and care about her. A friend was waiting for her at the emergency room when she arrived.

Since being admitted, the new medical team has completed her intake, medications, CT scan, and evaluation. She has already received another round of antivenom and an additional blood transfusion. The doctors have also continued her antibiotics.

Norma remains in significant pain. Her foot is still very red, hot, and swollen. Imaging revealed an abscess that will require treatment. Tomorrow, she is scheduled for a procedure that will involve making an incision to help drain the infection and reduce the inflammation. Her leg will then be wrapped to support healing and continued drainage.

The current treatment plan also includes five additional rounds of antivenom.

We are hopeful that with improved care, better pain management, and aggressive treatment of the infection, Norma can finally begin the recovery process in earnest.

Thank you to everyone who continues to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
